Inspiring Shots

A close up is always a successful shot in a music video because it shows the emotion on the face of the character. I will be using this shot to show sad emotion on the characters in my music video to reinforce the sad meaning of the song and the meaning behind the lyrics.

Establishing shots set the scene so the audience know where the music video is taking place. I am very inspired by this particular shot because it is highlighted by the night sky and luminous lights. There is a lot hidden behind skyline lights as well as being able to see everything outlined with little details. However, I don't think establishing shots look as successful in rural areas so if I were to use a similar shot I would love to shoot it in London with recognisable landmarks.

A split screen can be used very imaginatively; the photo to the right shows a homemade video made by a famous YouTube sensation - Charlie McDonnell. He created it to look as if he was singing a duet with himself. It is interesting to see how you can make it look as if you are sat next to each other with extra takes. I am inspired by this shot as I would love to include two different stories in the music video taking place side by side which have a link.

Long exposure shots are an effective way of showing time passing. They are commonly showing the lights of cars on a motorway - it shows the urbanisation of the modern world as well as how busy amd hectic our lives can be, leading to a place unimaginable. I would like to use this in my music video to demonstate time passing. This is because my group and I want to tell the story of a relationship over a long period.

Point of view shots are successful in making the audience feel as if they are involved in the music video. It gives the audience the opportunity to have a personal relationship with the other characters in the music video and truly understand the story being shown. This would be a good feature to use in my music video to allow the audience to understand the heartbreak of the actor playing James Bay.
