Song Choices
Finding the right song is a big decision for a group, there are many requirements that the final song choice must fit. I believe that the song must be sung passionately by the artist so that the audience will "connect" with the song, especially once the moving image is partnered with it. The song must also be sung by an artist with a voice that can be easily imitated by an actor; for example, the song cannot be from an iconic artist such as Chris Martin. My group and I are also looking for a song with a beat in it which can be used for a successful edit cut in time with it as this will look sharp and meaningful (however, this will be dependent on the narrative that we decide on). And lastly the song must be of a style that we all enjoy listening to and that we all agree on will help create a successful music video.

Narrowing Down
Due to the song being such an important factor we must narrow it down until we find the perfect song.
Each person in the group chose some songs so that we all had an input to the song choice. We had four songs which did not make the short list which are:
-
Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet
-
Dani California - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
-
Love Me Like You Do - Ellie Goulding
-
Move Your Feet - Junior Senior

These two songs were in our top 5 song choices but did not make it to the top 3 for various reasons.
-
Feel Good Inc - Gorillaz
This is an upbeat song featuring rap verses and alternative hip hop influences. There is a wide variety of opportunies to create an imaginative music video for this song because it is upbeat but the meaning behind the song is to do with escapism and isolation - an unusual partnership. The music video could incorporate a party scene with effects added on in post-production to make the character seem as though they are alone and their friends are betraying them, making the feeling of depression and being alone apparent.
-
Someone Like You - Adele
This song has a lot of meaning and is sung by Adele who is an iconic singer. Therefore, one reason we could not use this song is because we would find it difficult to find a singer/actor to complete the performance side of the music video that we will create. As well as this, Someone Like You is a very well-known song and it would be hard to recreate it due to everyone’s strong connection with the song.
However, the song is of a tempo and genre that we would be interested in creating a music video to partner - the song comes under the genres of both soul and soft pop - therefore the song appealed to us. I believe that soul songs have a lot more meaning behind the lyrics and are open to interpretation; this is what makes them good songs to create music videos for.

We came up with three song ideas immediately that the whole group liked and were keen to produce a music video for. Above you can also see the original ideas that we had for the narrative of each of the three songs.
The 3 songs linked below were our final 3 choices:
