The Brief
"A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
-
a website homepage for the band;
-
a digipak for the album's release;
-
a magazine advertisement for the digipak."
The first reason that I have chosen to complete this brief is because I have a strong interest in the creation of a music video and think that it will be enjoyable to make. Secondly, I have chosen it because the ancillaries appeal to me; although the creation of the website homepage raises copyright issues the digipak and magazine advertisement will be able to be made. I have previously created a magazine in GCSE media so I can bring this knowledge forward when I make an advertisement as well as more recent developments in my knowledge that I have gained in AS media such as editing and more interesting and successful camera shots/angles. A digipak is a new challenge for me but I am looking forward to facing it, I think it will be interesting to create as there is such importance in the appearance of it to ensure the album is sold and is a success for the artist.

The ancillary options for the children's TV drama include a magazine front cover, DVD cover or a radio advertisement. The radio advertisement would be very difficult because a convention of a radio advertisement is that they are usually only 30 seconds and include a jingle to ensure they are memorable. It is incredibly difficult to make a child focussed advertisement that shares its message well in such a short time frame. I would not want to create both a front cover for a magazine and a DVD because it would not show my varying skills and therefore the radio advertisement would be the only other option, however it would not be easily created. The ancillary options for the short film are very similar to this, the options are a poster for the film, a radio trailer for the film or a film magazine review page. Once again, I would not wish to create two similar ancillaries and the radio trailer would prove difficult and time consuming.
Another reason why this brief has been chosen is down to the everyday influence that music videos have on my life and others around me; this is something that the short film and children's TV drama brief's do not have. This is because I am the target audience of many music videos because of my age and because I have an interest in music. However I am not the target audience of a children's TV drama, and I am not a committed viewer of short films.
