Viva La Vida - Coldplay
The song title comes from the Spanish meaning of "live the life" and the lyrics are suggesting to the audience to live the life that they have to the full. It includes Christian and historical references so it is partly a very realistly written piece of work by the band, Coldplay which adds a lot more depth to the song.
Video Analysis
The music video shows blurry images which suggests the the memories are distorted looking back atthe historical facts. I don't think that I will use this technique to suggest distortion, however I would rather use a black and white overlay or a fade into the shot to sugegst it isn't clear.
All of the music video shows performance which allows the audience to connect witht the band, however I think that it prevents the audience from finding out the story behind the lyrics in more depth. I will be producing at least a half way split in terms of screen time between the performance and the narrative so that the audience are able to connect with the artist as well as find out more about the meaning behind the song.
The colours used in the music video are dark - black, red, a dark and faded yellow, and purple - these can sugegst fire and dager as well as negative thoughts such as being trapped. The suggestion of feeling trapped is supported by the way that there is never a background, it is thought that the band are boxed in. I don't think that this has worked successfully and therefore I am not inspired by this, I will ensure that techniques and meanings are shown clearly in my music video creation.
