Questionnaire Evaluation

I have noted from my questionnaire results that pop is the most popular genre of music, followed by soul and rock. This is helpful to know when creating my music video and choosing the song because I would not want to create a music video to a song that no one knows of or is interested in. The song that my group and I chose is Let It Go - James Bay which falls under the category of soul/alternative music. When asking the questionnaire respondants if their favourite genre of music was not on the list provided, the two most common answers were metal and alternative. This ensures that the genre song I have chosen is popular and will engage a large audience.
When asking which music artists the questionnaire respondants had heard of only One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay had a 100% response. This tells me that pop (One Direction), soul (Ed Sheeran) and alternative (Coldplay) are the most overall well known genres of music and that to create a successful music video which reaches a wide audience the song choice should fall into one of these genres. A strong interest in pop music suggests my target audience will be within the social demographic grouping from C1 and below due to being very mainstream and not having a strong interest in cutlural music.

Only a very low number of people watch music videos on a daily basis and the most common answer was every other week, however, one answer stated that they only watch music videos if they have heard that it is good. This tells me that my group and I must create a music video that is spoken about and spread via word of mouth because it is so successful and instesting for the audience.
The most common access platform for watching music videos is on YouTube as well as on MTV. This suggests that we should enable it to be viewed on these platforms. Working with Universal Music Group will allow us to work closely with MTV because of their close ties.
The audience want to see a mix of both performance and narrative which we will give them, however, it is interesting to see that they are more interested in the narrative rather that the artists' performance. Therefore, I will ensure that there is more screentime for the narrative than the performance.

The audience want to see an image of the artist on the album art, this is a convention for CD cases, however it is not for a digipak as it usually shows an image with no relevance to the artist. This is what one of the respondants suggested so I will take this idea into consideration.
My target audience is both women and men aged between 17 and 25 years old, a young age group, however, I did not restrict the age group of those who could complete the questionnaire becuase I would like my final creation to appeal to a mass audience on a general scale but be more specifically aimed and appealing to younger people. The audience would be associated with a social demographic grouping between C1 and D because the target audience will probably still be dependant upon family members or with a low incom. Due to the assumption that the audience will reguarly watch music videos I would not expect them to be in a high demographic range whereby those in the A class would stereotypically engage in literature and the arts in their spare time. There are no ethnic restrictions, however, the music vide will be made in England a typically white, middle class country and therefore the White British ethnic gorup will be my main audience.
